VC Players Lounge Official Launch Party
London, UK (06.02.2007)
Tuesday 6th Feb, saw the celebration and celebrity launch of full time opening of The Loose Cannon Sports Bar and VC Players Lounge, which is the huge City of London Games Room, that has done it the right way. Poker and games with no rake and no fees in a private members club.
The event was a $10k free roll provided by VC, and attracted a fierce field of 213 players including poker luminaries such as Joe Beevers, Willy Tan, Marc Goodwin, Iwan Jones, Tony Holden, Al Alvarez. Hardcore players included the likes of Neil Channing, Paul Parker and Michael Greco along with all the poker industry press that believe they can play poker like Gus. Next came celebrities including Teddy Sherringham, Alex Best, Mathew Stevens, a smattering of premiership footballers, Snooker players and Forum celebrities.
Approximately 110 members attended this historical event, this number was limited due to the media nature of the event.
The evening was one big party, with Champagne and Canapés being served through the night, and added entertainment in the form of bounty playing Dogs, Elvis and Celebrities to knock out of the event and win Veuve Clicquot and cash. The event portrayed the fun, glamour and community spirit the game of poker can generate. The venue has one of the largest games rooms in Europe, The VC Players Lounge, where members can also play a variety of games from Backgammon to Chess, or simply partake in a relaxing drink or dine in the fine balcony brasserie restaurant.

Although primarily a social evening, the tournament attracted as serious a field as you would expect in many major events. Starting stacks of 3500 chips left room for plenty of serious play, and after 8 hours of action we were left with a final table with no less than three ladies still vying for victory. Ashly Rae, a very promising actress and model whose legs are insured for one million pounds, the lovely Liv Boeree accompanied by Alina Salnikova. Alina finally battled heads up with Matt Wilson, a journalist from TalkSport. Matt eventually won through with 56 verses Alina’s 72, with a 5 and a 2 on the flop. Alina received two very solid sponsorship offers after this event which just goes to show the impact the Loose Cannon and VC Players Lounge free roll had on the poker world.
